CFCM Dymax Conformal Coatings 400Dymax Corporation recently announced the release of a novel conformal coating.

Dual-cure 9771 was developed for use on printed circuit boards in missiles, satellites and spacecraft.

According to the company’s press release, Dual-cure 9771 meets NASA Low Outgassing Specification - ASTM E595 and Mil-Std 883 Method 5011. Mil-Std 883 method 5011 is a standard method for testing electronic devices for military and aerospace electronic systems. The standard also includes mechanical and electrical tests to ensure quality and reliability suitable for intended end-uses that require low properties for ionic content, outgassing, conductivity and pH.

Additionally, the standard includes environmental testing to determine the resistance to the detrimental/harmful effects of natural elements and conditions surrounding military and space operations.

The company reports that Dual-cure 9771 is a reworkable coating that cures with light and moisture to ensure material that flows underneath components on PCBs fully cures. The new coating has low ionic content, a UL 94 V0 flammability rating, and is UL 746E recognized.

Other important features of 9771 include resistance to corrosion, temperature and humidity, coating thickness to 0.008” (0.20 mm) and a bright blue fluorescing tracer that is highly visible on boards before and after cure for high-speed, inline quality inspection.

AkzoNobel Powder Coatings has developed a new web application 3D colour visualization tool within its Interpon webshop to help customers better understand how a powder coating’s colour, texture and finish that look good in theory, will actually appear in reality. 

The tool provides instant access to thousands of colours in the Interpon range. Using a 360-degree dynamic camera and simulated lighting, the customer is given a true-to-life image of how the colour performs to a degree of accuracy and realism not possible before in a virtual environment.  

Rather than the image being ‘flat’, the customer can orientate the ‘virtual’ panel to see how the light reflects and the colour looks from different angles.
