BYK LabBYK-Gardner USA recently announced the availability of its VMA Dispersion Laboratory located in Wallingford, Conn. at its Additives Research Facility. This lab facility has the capability of performing product dispersion and bead mill demonstrations for a wide-variety of markets—ranging from inks and coatings to battery development, cosmetics, food and pharma, as well as emerging markets such as 3D print media and CBD health applications.

“This state-of the art facility is extremely advantageous for customers to have hands-on demonstrations, training, and trials while utilising our facility and expertise to find solutions to the challenges they face for upcoming projects,” says Andreas Stummer, dispersion business line manager for BYK-Gardner USA.

Working together with clients, the dispersion specialists will review the formulations and optimise the dispersion process to meet the project objectives. The development and design team then comes with innovative ideas and long-term experience in the mixing, dispersing, and grinding technology. Due to the synergies with BYK Additives the team can not only provide solutions to the best dispersing and milling equipment choices but also leverage the additives knowledge of other staff.

This lab can evaluate different types of laboratory dissolvers and milling tools as well as measuring the results such as final particle size, particle size distribution, viscosity, and other physical and optical properties of a product.

Benefits and Capabilities:

  • Demonstrations of product performance, flexibility and accessories through a variety of milling techniques
  • Scale-up capability for customers interested in large equipment
  • Leverage synergies between our instrument and additive business
  • Showroom with the latest milling and dispersing equipment
  • Milling and dispersing training and seminars
  • Expertise of dispersion specialists

“We would be pleased to show you the impressive work section of our dispersers, mixers, stirrers, bead mills, and basket mills for dispersing, mixing, stirring, homogenizing and fine grinding up to the nanoscale. Our skilled engineers are available at any time for personal consultations,” says Stummer.

CFCM slingpsychrometer 400Paul N. Gardner USA, global distributors, producers, and designers of quality physical and inspection instruments for the paint, coatings, and related industries, has introduced a new offering: The compact, portable Sling Psychrometer.

As an easy way to measure relative humidity levels quickly, this uniquely compact Bacharach Sling Psychrometer accurately determines per cent relative humidity without the necessity of consulting complex tables. There is no need to wet the wick each time a reading is taken, and it contains a slide rule calculator which correlates wet and dry bulb thermometer indications for direct reading of relative humidity. When not in use, the thermometer case telescopes into the handle for protection.

The Sling Psychrometer consists of two thermometers that are turned by vigorously swinging the handle and exposing the thermometers to rapid air movement. These two thermometers are called dry bulb and wet bulb. The bulb of one thermometer is placed in direct contact with the room air to measure dry-bulb air temperature. The bulb of the other thermometer is covered with a silk or muslin sleeve that is kept moist to record the wet bulb temperature. Evaporation cools the wet bulb more than the dry bulb, and the humidity is obtained as a function of change in temperature. The atmospheric humidity is determined by calculations, steam tables, or using a psychrometric chart. Gardco.com
