Rodney Taylor, Ph.D., has been named vice-president, innovation, Americas region, at Orion Engineered Carbons. Taylor is responsible for leading the development of carbon black products and production processes in the Americas. Prior to joining Orion in the US, he served as vice-president, global process development at the company’s Cologne, Germany, technical center. He is a 35-year veteran of carbon black research and development, and is chairman of the American Carbon Society. He previously led Columbian Chemical Co.’s carbon black research and development function. Taylor earned a B.S. in Chemistry/Geology from Midwestern State University in Wichita Falls, TX, and his Ph.D. in Material Science studying carbon materials under Dr. P. L. Walker at Pennsylvania State University.
