CFCM TPC Logo 400In its fifth year, Technology Publishing Co.’s commercial honours program, The Elevation Awards, expanded its reach by partnering with the Commercial Painting Industry Association. As a result of the partnership, the Elevation Awards received the most competitive nominations that the judges had ever seen.

In recognizing the best work in commercial painting, in addition to the people behind the coating jobs—the architects, painting contractors, interior designers, decorative artisans, manufacturers and suppliers—the annual competition continues to raise the bar for industry excellence.

Assessed by our panel of painting experts, the following project was awarded in the program’s “Floor Coatings” category:

Palladiana Terrazzo Flooring at The Hugh

Located within the Midtown Manhattan district in New York City, “The Hugh” atrium and food court recently received a makeover, giving the space a warm, European café atmosphere.

For the project, building owners Boston Properties and architect TPG Architecture LLP sought out a design that both featured an old-world colour scheme. They contrasted the Citicorp Tower and nearby offices. TPG Architecture was also looking to expand the atrium with retail and dining options.

Instead of employing a standard terrazzo pour, TPG Architecture specified the Palladiana terrazzo design as a way to imbue added depth and texture throughout the space while also lending robust durability, long-term sustainability and easy-care maintenance. Terrazzo has long been reported as one of the most resilient flooring options for high-traffic public spaces. With a measuring thickness of 3/8th-inch, the flooring supports a 50-plus-year life cycle.
